President's Message
Kenneth Courter

Good Day,

As my year wraps up as President I wish to thank you for contributing to our Rotary projects. Our efforts are now with the Blood Drive on April 28th at the Health & Wellness Expo and the Ashburn Cares Food Drive which finishes on May 6th.

Over the past ten months we have had many hands on projects in the community. Our success is directly attributable to your generosity.  You are the best Rotarians that are the base of this enterprising and excitement. But there is a much larger Rotary World out there for us to contribute.

During the year our focus has been to feed, cloth and help children to have school supplies and toys.  Beyond community projects we have helped children with computer supplies in Lee Couty, Virginia. Our recent project to fund Interact scholarships provides the basis for children to continue their studies.  The Corn Hole tournament also provided much needed funding to Loudoun’s First Responders.  The Water Project epitomizes the heart and soul of our generosity. Now even more families will realize clean water in their communities.  The Car Seat Safety Check and contribution also supported families in need.

Please take the lead and chair a committee to do good. Invite speakers to visit and explain their good works.  Make a difference every day.

See you Thursday,

Yours in service,
Ken

Ashburn Rotary Blood Drive
Clean Water Project
The Rotary Club of Ashburn is raising funds to bring clean water to Ghana in West Africa.

The boreholes in Zuarungu Torson and Wakii in the Bolgatanga Municipal district is estimated to serve a combined 850 people. Rotary global grant 17-57675 will provide communities with clean water and sanitation with improved hygiene in the Bolgatanga area of the Upper East Region in Ghana.

Our goal is to provide communities with twenty-three boreholes (deep wells), three small town water systems and two hundred and seventy-five new Microflush toilets with hand washing sinks. The new Microflush toilets will be provided to schools and homes to increase awareness and use of the new sanitation technology. We also want to develop training videos and materials to teach new Microflush toilet makers. The project budget is $200,000. The result of not having access to clean drinking water can caused widespread disease resulting in the inability for those affected to work or support themselves. The project is anticipated to begin in summer 2018 through finish in 2019.

The Four-Way Test

The Four-Way Test is a nonpartisan and nonsectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships. The test has been translated into more than 100 languages, and Rotarians recite it at club meetings:

Of the things we think, say or do

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
